10 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

What does your collections include?

It's not every photographer that include all that you think should be included. Normally you get all the good photos on a CD or a usb drive. Some offer you an album in all the collections, some just offer them in the top ones. Traveling fee is a fee that often makes an apperance. It's important to know ahead if you find a perfect photographer that lives 50 miles away from you. If you can't find a collection that suits you, tell your photographer what you want and ask if they can build a special collection just for you.

Will the photos be edited when we get them?

Most photographers these days will edit their photos before the client gets them. That's when they give them that signature style. Retouch is less common, and often only if the client asks for it. Some photographers take an extra fee for this.

What happens if you're sick on our wedding day?

Even a photographer can get sick and what will yours do if it happens on your wedding day? Most photographers have a back-up if they can't make it to you wedding. Then another photographer will take his or her place at the same, or to a reduced, cost. It's important that you know how this works so that you wont be without a photographer if something happens. Although it takes a hospital and many broken bones to keep most photographers away from your wedding, so don't worry.

Do we have to sign a contract?

To sign a contract often feels like a burden. Remember that the contract is for your sake! The contract will say when and what your photographer should deliver. You don't have to worry if he or she will show up on you day or not, or if they will deliver your photos in a reasonable time. With a contract you will know what to expect from your photographer.

Do you have testimonials from former weddings?

If you couldn't find testimonials on the photographers website, or had a friend recommend them, ask the photographer if they could send you some. To read what others think can make it easier to picture how your day could look if you pick that photographer for your wedding day.

What to we do if it rains?

A proffessional photographer will ask you about this from the beginning. Often you will make a plan together about what opportunitys you have to take gorgous photos of you are indoors or in areas protected from the rain that are close to where you will get married.

Will you make a lot of sounds in the church, running around snapping photos?

A wedding photographer is very discreet in a church and have great respect for the minister. Most won't even notice the photographer, except a quiet click here and there. It could also be wise to tell the minister in advance that you are going to hire a photographer as some ministers have restrictions, even though you photographer will talk to the minister on your wedding day, before the ceremony.

Can we give you a list of photos that we want from our day?

Pinterest is todays brides biggest gift. You can pin all the beautiful photos you want and a lot of brides want that kind of photos from their wedding day. Your photographer will gladly accept your inspo board as inspiration, but when it's time for your day they will take amazing photos that will be unique for you and your wedding. Asking your photographer to recreate photos from Pinterest is like killing their creativity. What you can do is to give your photographer a list of photos you don't want them to miss, like photos with the parents, the bridesmaids and best man etc.

Are you alone, or will you bring an assistant or a second shooter to our wedding?

Most photographers will bring an assistant when they shoot a wedding. The assistant will help out with equipment, bags and keep an eye on the time. To have a second shooter is often an extra service, but it could give you photos from other angels on your wedding day. A wedding photographer has no problem to cover your day by him or her self, but with a second shooter you can get the same moment from different angels and you can have the second shooter cover the reception while the first photographer takes portraits with the bride and groom.

Why are you a wedding photographer?

This question will tell you how dedicated you photographer is. If you get the answer that it just happend or that they do it because that's where the money is, you should probably look elsewhere. Most wedding photographers love weddings and are genuinely interested to hear about how you met, about the engagement and about the thought behind your wedding theme.
